Joe Kennedy III is “quietly lining up fund-raisers”

JPK all the way?

Some have assumed that Joe Kennedy would run for the seat in the 10th district where he was the Cape & Islands assistant district attorney, or take Capuano’s Boston seat were the Congressman to eventually run for Kerry’s senate seat. Yet the always-vocal, unreliable “unnamed sources” are suggesting otherwise.

R.I. Public Radio reports “that the Kennedy family has been quietly lining up fund-raisers and that Kennedy will have something more to say about his plans within a week or so.”

The globe reports that since “moving from the the Cape and Islands district attorney’s office to the Middlesex prosecutor’s office in September, Kennedy said he has been living with his father in Brighton and his mother in Cambridge.” With no set home base, he would likely move into the 4th district to run, just as his father did when Tip O’Neill Jr. announced he would leave his 8th district seat in 1986.

With no big names or elected officials yet to enter the race (Mike Ross?), now could be the moment for Kennedy to jump in and deter a crowded field. He has the face of JFK, the quintessential Harvard Law degree, a steady and impressive record as assistant DA, and a head of hair that would make Mr. Jabez Wilson proud.

Joe’s candidacy would bring national headlines, the likely support of establishment figures, and oodles of cash. Watch closely in the next three weeks for movement.
